Pakistan Cricket Team – A Look at the Batsmen for the World Cup Squad

The world cup tournament is soon to begin. Squads have been announced. Fans wait in anticipation of what is to come next. In this article the prospects of the Pakistani team will be discussed. This article will discuss the potential of the batsmen. The possible batsmen in the playing 11 will be M.Hafeez, Ahmed Shahzad, Younis Khan, Sohaib Maqsood, Umar Akmal, Misbah Ul Haq, Shahid Afridi and Sarfraz Ahmed.

In the above list only Ahmed Shahzad, Younis Khan, Misbah ul Haq and Sarfraz Ahmed are reliable batsmen. M.Hafeez was selected to ‘bat’ but has ever since failed to be reliable. He has rather become a bowler. Currently, he doesn’t deserve to be a part of this team. In my opinion Sarfraz should open the batting with Ahmed Shahzad. Younis Khan is reliable but his strike rate is very low sometimes. Especially if wickets fall early it becomes very difficult for Younus Khan to make runs. Misbah is very effective indeed but he will probably be coming very late in the innings. I doubt he would be able to deliver match winning innings. Sarfraz Ahmed is classy but given his position he really can not deliver at all. Shahid Afridi is not a batsman and almost usually gets out early. He is someone who shouldn’t even be in this list. Sohaib Maqsood is a good prospect but not reliable. He has the problem of being inconsistent and has a lack of temperament. He plays reckless shots consistently. In my opinion this batting order has numerous chemistry problems too.

In my opinion the batting order must have been this way. Sarfraz Ahmed and Ahmed Shahzad must’ve opened the innings followed by Fawal Alam, Sohaib Maqsood, Umar Akmal, Misbah ul Haq and then Abdul Razzaq. Unfortunately Abdul Razzaq has not been included in the squad which is a pity. If such a squad would have been chosen then Pakistan’s batting line up would have been strengthened greatly. Fawad Alam is a very good batsman and his recent performances have been very good. Abdul Razzaq is an exceptional all-rounder and he should have been in the squad. It is a pity that very talented players have not been included. Hammad Azam could also have been included.

A very good team combination could have been made. Unfortunately, the team selection is very poor. The batting is not very strong yet Pakistan can win the upcoming world cup. The bowlers of the Pakistani team will have to play a key role.
